Shown below are some of our aircraft which are setup with redundant systems to make them safer and controllable should a random failure occur in flight. We do not subscribe to the axiom that sooner or later all aircraft crash. Check out our article in November 2009 Model Aviation -Crashing is not an Option.
I guess that my full scale training that makes me believe that. Imagine getting on a Boeing 747 and the pilot says - Yeah - sooner or later all these planes crash -
Aside from pilot error you can fly these planes for years when set up properly. Even if a failure occurs we have learned how to set them up to be controllable. (see our Gemstone book - Gas Engines-Giant planes)
For example, the $ 6000.00 plane shown below had a receiver become inoperative on the 7th flight - No problem - We landed the plane on the other receiver. Would your plane pass this test? More importantly - no one got hurt.

This plane, that took 1 year to build, features panel lines, rivets, full lighting system, fowler flaps, a full cockpit interior and was the subject of a feature article in RCM, had a receiver crystal failure about 8 years ago. No Problem - We simply landed the plane on the other receiver and more importantly - no got hurt! Would your plane have survived this malfunction? If not it may be time for you to consider other setups featured in our book Gas Engine-Giant Planes, that would make your plane safer to fly and able to be landed in case of an equipment failure. Why needlessly crash an airplane and endanger others when setups exist to safely land planes when failures occur. |
